Can My Child Learn Violin Lessons?

1) Who can learn to play the violin?

Anyone above 4 years old can play the violin. Through practice, the skills can be picked up.

2) When a kid plays the violin, do they have to change the violin?

Yes, as they grow in size, the length of their arms and legs change. Therefore, the size of the violin would need to be changed too. The violin teacher would monitor this and recommend.

3) What consists of the starter kit for the violin lesson?

A violin, simple musical scores and an introduction to reading the musical notes (if the student has no background in music).

4) Any detrimental effects of playing the violin?

The violin teacher would always check for good posture and techniques, minimizing painful side effects. A slight discomfort at the neck area might incur.

A purchase of your own violin is highly recommended as you need it to practice after class to perfect your violin skills. Speak with your violin teacher and they would be more than happy to recommend an appropriate violin for your usage.

4) What if I want to only try and see if I like playing the violin long term?

You can try the lessons for the first few months. Then decide if you want to pursue playing the violin long term.

Learning The Violin

1) I have no musical background. Can I master the violin?

Yes, no musical experience is required. The violin is one of the tougher instruments, however once mastered, gives a deep sense of satisfaction.

The ability to play the violin hugely depends on your musical background and no. of hours commited to practice. Do not impose too high requirements on yourself as learning a musical instrument is an achievement already.

2) How quickly can I master the violin?

There is no fixed timeline for this. It really depends on individual's ability to master it. It could range from 4 months to 1 year.
